In remembrance of our esteemed colleague, Joel Karczewski – AIAG’s vice president of commercial services through December 2018 – AIAG has announced a scholarship opportunity for students enrolling in the Auto Industry Certificate in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management program.
This new scholarship, which will be awarded annually to three students, has been offered to two individuals from Wayne State University and one from Macomb Community College for the 2019 program. Each awardee will receive funding to cover the cost of enrollment for the certificate program, which is a joint offering from AIAG and Wayne State University.
In addition to believing, as Joel did, in the benefits of an integrated approach to education that includes valuable perspectives from those with hands-on professional experience, applicants must also meet certain prerequisites to be considered for the scholarship. Candidates must be seniors (or have completed the equivalent credits) at their college or university, meet a minimum grade point average, and have supply chain work experience. With their application, they are also asked to include a short statement describing their leadership on campus, as well as a brief essay on their future goals and aspirations in the automotive supply chain space.
As one of the founding fathers of this program and a strong advocate for engaging the next generation of supply chain management leaders, Joel’s contributions will continue to have a positive impact on the industry – and this scholarship will ensure that his legacy lives on for many years to come.
