AIAG’s Finished Vehicle Logistics initiatives are gearing up again after the summer months. As part of the Finished Vehicle Transportation Optimization committee, four OEMs met recently to exchange ideas about further outbound vehicle optimization. This committee has already tackled rail co-loading and VIN-level shipments and is now looking at broadening its scope here in North America.
Following AIAG’s recent redesign of its website, the Port Quality Assessment team hopes to have its customizable tool available by the end of September.
AIAG’s Lang Ware, director of supply chain products and services, is working closely with OEM senior management to get a forum scheduled for examining the areas of common interest in FVL and to produce more standards and guidelines in this arena.
Finally, ECG Executive Director Mike Sturgeon was at AIAG on September 22, 2015 for a joint AIAG-ECG meeting on inspections and claims management. ECG is a Belgium-based association of outbound vehicle logistics suppliers. The two organizations hosted OEMs and their quality suppliers in this arena to examine what is on the horizon from a global perspective and to discuss the ongoing need for publishing global standards and guidelines.
