Developed in a collaborative effort by volunteers from Nexteer Automotive, Ford Motor Company, Adient US LLC, Dana Incorporated, Delphi Technologies, FCA US LLC, General Motors Company, Gestamp Mason, and Magna International, the CQI-15 Welding System Assessment (WSA) 2nd edition is now available.

The WSA 2nd edition is a comprehensive audit covering all variations of welding intended to provide a common approach to a welding management system for automotive production and service part organizations. The 2nd edition also includes best practices across many processes and components all wrapped up into one document to share lessons learned globally.

Now in its second edition, this document specifies process requirements for an organization or its suppliers performing applicable ferrous and non-ferrous metallic welding. Numerous updates have been made including incorporating the job audit questions into the Process Tables to reduce redundancy and to simplify the audit flow, and the addition of two additional processes: Fastener Projection Welding and Magnetically Impelled Arc Butt (MIAB) Welding.

“The CQI-15 assessments are important to the industry as a whole and specifically to individual companies because they provide a roadmap for companies to keep their procedures and processes updated,” explains Brian Hable, welding technical expert, Ford Motor Company.  “Some of the improvements in the 2nd edition will include a scoring system which allows the OEMs to have a numerical indicator or ‘measurable’ with respect to their compliance and we can monitor the improvement actions or CQI ‘Continuous Quality Improvement’ over time.”

"These assessments provide easy access to automotive industry minimum expectations with regards to system and process quality,” adds Dave Willig, CWI, staff manufacturing engineer, Nexteer Automotive.

The new assessment guidelines are now available in print and electronic document formats, exclusively from AIAG. Check out purchase options and get your copy today!
