AIAG and its member companies have worked collaboratively over many years to consistently offer new and eye-opening information to assist you and your company. Here’s a look at our accomplishments in 2022.

2022 Virtual AIAG Corporate Responsibility Summit

The virtual 2022 Summit on June 21–22, 2022, focused on industry challenges and opportunities with agenda items addressing the evolution of ESG factors in the supply chain. Topics provided basic awareness of topics for those new to these issues, as well as in-depth insights for more experienced professionals.

2022 IMDS & Product Chemical Compliance Conference 

AIAG’s annual IMDS and Product Chemical Compliance Conference on October 11–12, 2022, once again provided all the necessary information for automotive OEMs and suppliers alike to successfully navigate the ever-changing and complex world of global chemical regulations that affect the industry. This year’s conference theme was “How the IMDS Data Structure Is Changing to Accommodate Future Sustainability Requirements.” Around this theme, presenters covered topics such as IMDS Rec 019 updates, features of upcoming IMDS updates, AIAG committee updates, as well as pertinent legislative updates from around the globe.

WEBINARS AND RECORDINGS

  • January 27: Next Gen Employee Development: How AIAG is Helping Accelerate Their Success. AIAG’s first Future Automotive Expert (FAE) event of 2022 on Thursday, January 27 was presented by AIAG CEO J. Scot Sharland. The online event covered the products, tools, and investments AIAG has provided to help the global supply base identify, screen, and onboard the next generation of supply chain and quality professionals.
  • German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act. AIAG offered a three-part webinar series to help members comply with the German government’s actions to address human rights in the supply chain, which will go into force in 2023.
    • German Due Diligence Act: Responsible Supply Chains: New Requirements presented by Magnus Piotrowski and Sarah Carpenter, Assent Compliance. This recording covered the purpose of the law, along with information to assist in building a strong data management system to meet your company’s requirements.
    • German Due Diligence Act – Legal Requirements presented by Michael Littenberg and Samantha Elliott, Ropes & Gray LLP. This recording provided an overview of the legal requirements of the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act.
    • German Due Diligence Act: Managerial Implications and Pragmatic Actions presented by Jens Winkler, ELEVATE – Germany. This recording looked at the managerial implications resulting from the law by focusing on the nine due diligence obligations. It outlined a management framework and provided pragmatic approaches and actions.
    • Investor Expectations for Human Rights Due Diligence presented by Mary Beth Gallagher, Investor Advocates for Social Justice. Originally shared at the 2022 Corporate Responsibility (CR) Summit, this recorded session provided an investor perspective on addressing human rights risks in the automotive industry and the corporate responsibility to respect human rights across the value chain.
  • Greenhouse Gas Emissions: A Review of Scopes 1 & 2 Greenhouse Gas Emissions. It’s quickly becoming a standard expectation for OEM suppliers to quantify, disclose, and reduce their GHG emissions with a long-term outlook toward carbon neutrality. To support companies in the beginning stages of developing their climate change strategy, GZA, in partnership with AIAG, developed this complimentary webinar featuring GZA GeoEnvironmental’s Michael Lipowicz. The webinar covers the basics of GHG accounting: setting organizational boundaries, calculating Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions, and setting a base year to serve as the foundation for future GHG emissions targets.
  • April 27: Owning Your Career and Knowing Your Value in a Changing Environment. Featuring Dana Inc.’s Vice President of Global Quality Lonnie Holmquist, this FAE webinar explored being intentional, knowing your value, and owning your career in our ever-changing world.
  • How ESG Research Firms Evaluate Supply Chain Sustainability. Jessica Urdangarin (BrownFlynn) described the information various ESG firms expect companies to provide to demonstrate sustainable supply chain practices.
  • How Your Company's ESG Data Can Be Used. Publicly traded companies are being increasingly inundated with requests to publish environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data and institutional customer demand for ESG information is rippling through entire supply chains. This webinar led by Sharon Basel (General Motors), Lee O’Dwyer (Bloomberg L.P.) and Mike Wallace (BrownFlynn) discussed how converging developments create the need for companies to fully understand and strategically manage the disclosure of a new set of performance metrics.
  • August 24: In-Person Future Automotive Expert Event. Greenhouse Gas Emissions: How Do We Identify Them? The goal of this FAE event is to help you understand your role in contributing to climate change, and how human activities continue to impact this change. Featuring AIAG Program Manager of Environmental Sustainability Lecedra Randolph Jones, this session reviews what makes up these emissions, why we have to track and report them, and steps towards reduction. A recording of this webinar is now available in the AIAG store.
  • September 22 Future Automotive Expert Webinar. During Data Science and Business Analytics’ Role in Reshaping Supply Chain Optimization, Court Harvath (Ryder Systems) discussed how incorporating data science into supply chain solution development is transforming what we should be measuring, how we should measure it to drive optimal performance, and how analytics can be used to align key organizational goals with employee performance measurements to maximize team member engagement, improve process efficiency, and reduce costs. 

TRAINING and RESOURCES

  • Guidance for Measuring Renewable Content of Automotive Products. AIAG and the Suppliers Partnership for the Environment (SP) published a new guidance document, Measuring the Renewable Content of Automotive Products. The document was produced through a collaborative process by SP’s Materials Efficiency Work Group members including automotive OEMs such as Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Honda Development & Manufacturing of America, LLC (HDMA), Stellantis, Toyota Motor North America, and their suppliers.
  • Electronics Suppliers: IMDS Reporting Changes. AIAG’s Supplier Alliance Committee, which works globally with JAPIA and CLEPA to provide feedback to the IMDS Steering Committee on specific issues impacting suppliers, released this new information on five important reporting changes to IMDS.
  • Forced Labor/Human Rights Webpage. It’s become more critical than ever for companies to establish comprehensive human rights due diligence. In response, AIAG has convened a Forced Labor/Human Rights Ad Hoc Group with experts in customs trade compliance and sustainability and created a new Forced Labor/Human Rights webpage to raise awareness of these issues and provide related education. The webpage includes a presentation on the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, webinars on the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act, U.S. Department of Labor tools and information, and more — along with a link to our CTPAT — AEO Supply Chain Security Compliance page (in light of CTPAT requirements to combat forced labor).
  • Automotive Industry Guiding Principles to Enhance Sustainability Performance in the Supply Chain Plus Practical Guidance. Based on the Guiding Principles, the Automotive Sustainability Practical Guidance provides a practical explanation of each expectation as well as examples of actions suppliers could take in an attempt to improve overall sustainability performance. The document outlines several examples of how to meet the expectations described in the Guiding Principles regarding Business Ethics, Environment, Human Rights and Working Conditions, Health and Safety, and Responsible Supply Chain Management.
