Key Term Tuesday: Quality Acronyms

Acronyms can look like alphabet soup, so we’ve compiled a list of some of the most commonly used acronyms to help you out.

APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning)

What it means: A structured method of defining and establishing the steps necessary to assure that a product satisfies the customer.

CPK (Process Capability Index)

What it means: The adjustment of process capability for the effect of non-centered distribution.

MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis)

What it means: A collection of tools which seek to identify the components of variation in measurement devices

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)

What it means: An original equipment manufacturer or OEM is typically a company which uses a component made by a second company in its own product, or sells the product of the second company under its own brand

PSW (Part Submission Warrant)

What it means: An industry-standard document required for all newly tooled or revised products in which the organization confirms that inspections and tests on production parts show conformance to customer requirements.

SPC (Statistical Process Control)

What it means: The use of statistical techniques such as control charts to analyze a process or its output so as to take appropriate actions to achieve and maintain a state of statistical control and to improve the process capability.
