Online Training Series: Global Chemical Regulation Awareness and Management

hazardous chemicals - blog

Everyone has a role in how a company addresses its global chemical regulatory management, and AIAG’s three-part series — which is free to members — will help affected functions understand and manage the issues and risks.

The automotive industry faces many challenges from the continuous spread and escalation of chemical restrictions, and knowledge of those global regulations needs to extend through the design/manufacturing process.

AIAG’s Global Chemical Regulation Awareness and Management training provides the knowledge an organization needs to ensure compliance with local and global regulations specifically focused on products, while minimizing risks to their business. A thorough understanding of global chemical regulations will help an organization avoid manufacturing shutdowns, damage to company image, lawsuits, fines, and penalties, and increase efficiency through industry collaboration.

Everyone has a role in how a company addresses its global chemical regulatory management. Because the regulations impact all aspects of a product’s lifecycle, AIAG’s three-part online training series targets company directors; materials and product engineers; designers; health, safety, and environment staff; environmental practitioners; and purchasing staff. Plus, you can take these courses online any time to fit them into your schedule.

Course 1 — Regulations: Management and Compliance
This one-hour course includes an introduction to global chemical regulations with a focus on managing the proliferation of global environmental regulations and the importance of developing compliance strategies from product design to end-of-vehicle life. This course is designed for individuals involved with activities that impact the company’s environmental and product compliance: product design, materials management, purchasing, and bringing product to market. This may include materials and product engineers, environmental and health staff, production, purchasing, quality, and sales staff. No prior knowledge of global environmental regulations is required.

Course 3 — Management of Product Chemical Regulatory Compliance
Course 3 is an in-depth look at best practices to address product environmental issues and is specifically for practitioners. The four-hour interactive course includes in-depth discussion of managing global chemical regulatory compliance with specific emphasis on responsibility within functional roles, managing the supply chain, data collection, and material content reporting. Several global regulations will be discussed identifying regulatory requirements and strategies for compliance. Individuals will participate in knowledge checks and case studies throughout the course. This course is designed for individuals directly involved with chemical and product environmental compliance. Some knowledge of global regulations or completion of Course 2 is recommended.

Note that this course is not structured or intended to train or certify individuals for general facility environmental compliance to the many government-mandated regulations typically referred to as “environmental reporting.” Such training is very specific, often conducted by government-certified trainers, is tightly regulated, and is often state, country, and region specific. It typically requires ongoing monitoring of on-site chemical inventories, waste-water discharge, and air/stack emissions and permitting.
