This June will mark the 10th anniversary of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). Unanimously endorsed by the UN Human Rights Commission in 2011, the UNGPs have become the universal standard guiding business responsibility to respect human rights.

In support of Governor Whitmer's priorities for a just transition to a low-carbon transportation sector, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is offering a second round of funding for electric, hydrogen fuel cell, or diesel-electric hybrid commercial and mass transit vehicles to replace older, diesel-fueled models. Grants can also be used to buy charging stations for the electric vehicles.

As the world strives to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, countries must recognize that pursuing a green and resilient recovery is critical to rebuilding economies and addressing social inequities. Meanwhile, the steps countries take in their recovery plans can also drive climate action as countries strengthen and implement their nationally determined contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
